The Culture and Tourism Department has halted construction work at the Tomb of Prophet Daniel in Susa, Khuzestan after one of the walls collapsed during renovations.
The collapse occurred during the “Development Project of the Shrine of Daniel” by the Khuzestan Administration of Religious and Charitable Affairs.
ILNA reports that the project has been halted by Culture Department representatives, who have demanded a review of the project’s technical aspects.
The Historical Monument of Daniel in Susa is considered to be the Prophet Daniel’s tomb, located on the east bank of the Shavur River in front of Citadel Hill.
In recent years, the site has often been used as a venue for various religious events.
The site was registered on the list of Iran’s National Monuments in 1931.
The Culture and Tourism Department reports that the collapsed wall is one of the later additions to the site; however, it stressed that it will not allow any further construction activities without assurances that the shrine’s integrity will be protected.
