Zamaneh Media Code of Conduct

1. Purpose

Zamaneh Media is an independent media foundation committed to independent journalism, freedom of expression, human rights, equality and integrity.

This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of everyone working for or representing Zamaneh Media. It guides how we work with colleagues, contributors, partners, audiences and the communities we serve.

Everyone is expected to uphold this Code and to act with professionalism, respect and integrity at all times.

2. Scope

This Code applies to all employees, freelancers, consultants, interns, volunteers, contractors, members of the Board, and anyone representing Zamaneh Media.

It applies in the workplace, during travel and events, while working remotely, and in all work-related digital communications and online activities.

4. Expected Conduct

Everyone working for or representing Zamaneh Media shall:

  • Treat others with dignity, fairness and respect.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and professional working environment.
  • Act honestly and avoid conflicts of interest.
  • Protect confidential information and personal data.
  • Use organizational resources responsibly.
  • Respect editorial independence and avoid improper influence.
  • Follow applicable laws and organizational policies.
  • Raise concerns when they become aware of misconduct.

Managers have an additional responsibility to lead by example, promote respectful behaviour and take appropriate action when concerns are raised.

5. Unacceptable Conduct

The following behaviour is not tolerated:

  • Sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.
  • Harassment, bullying or intimidation.
  • Discrimination on any protected ground.
  • Abuse of power or authority.
  • Fraud, corruption, bribery or theft.
  • Retaliation against anyone who reports concerns in good faith.
  • Misuse of confidential information or organizational resources.
  • Any behaviour that undermines the safety, dignity or rights of others.

6. Editorial and Digital Conduct

As an independent media organization, we are committed to ethical and responsible journalism.

We will:

  • Respect the dignity, privacy and safety of sources, contributors and audiences.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries in editorial work.
  • Protect confidential sources and sensitive information.
  • Communicate respectfully in digital spaces and on social media.
  • Avoid online harassment, intimidation or abuse.
  • Exercise care when publishing or sharing content that may place individuals at risk.
  • Safeguard personal data and digital security.

7. Speaking Up

Everyone has a responsibility to report suspected misconduct, unethical behaviour or violations of this Code.

Reports will be handled confidentially, fairly and without retaliation in accordance with Zamaneh Media’s Complaints and Reporting Procedure.

8. Anti-Fraud and Anti-Corruption

Zamaneh Media is committed to the highest standards of integrity and has a zero-tolerance approach to fraud, corruption, bribery, theft and other forms of financial or ethical misconduct.

Everyone working for or representing Zamaneh Media is expected to act honestly, safeguard organizational resources, avoid conflicts of interest and report any suspected fraud or corruption. Allegations will be investigated and appropriate disciplinary or legal action may be taken where misconduct is substantiated.

9. Complaints and Reporting

Zamaneh Media encourages employees, freelancers, partners and other stakeholders to raise concerns about misconduct, unethical behaviour or violations of this Code.

Complaints and reports will be handled promptly, impartially, confidentially and with respect for the rights of all parties. The organization will take appropriate action to address concerns and to promote a safe and respectful working environment.

10. Whistleblower Protection

Anyone who reports concerns in good faith or participates in an investigation shall be protected from retaliation.

Zamaneh Media is committed to fostering a culture in which concerns can be raised safely and responsibly. Knowingly making false or malicious reports, however, may result in disciplinary action.

11. Accountability

Violations of this Code may result in disciplinary measures, termination of employment or contractual relationships, or referral to the appropriate authorities where required by law.

Managers are responsible for promoting compliance with this Code and fostering a culture of integrity, respect and accountability.
