In the last few months, schoolgirls in Iran have been recognized for their immense bravery in standing up against the Islamic Republic and its corrupt, discriminatory regime. Images of young schoolgirls flaunting their hair sans hijab whilst giving the middle finger to framed photographs of the supreme leaders on their classroom walls took the Internet by storm. Their powerful voices marching through their schools and the streets of their cities shouting, “woman, life, freedom!” can still be heard. But these days, being a schoolgirl in the Islamic Republic’s Iran means being at risk of chemical terrorism. The Islamic Republic’s fear of girls growing into educated women is so deep that they have moved from mentally conditioning them to poisoning them. Woman, life, freedom.
