The former president of the United States, Donald Trump, has pleaded not guilty to 37 criminal charges over the mishandling of classified documents during a hearing on Tuesday, June 13 in Miami. Trump is the first president in the history of the United States to face a federal criminal indictment. The charges include illegally retaining national defense information, concealing documents and obstruction of justice. Photos released online show boxes of documents stacked in several rooms in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. It is yet unclear what will happen next, as pretrial proceedings may change the course of the case altogether. What is known however, is that Trump is the frontrunner for the Republican party in the 2024 election.
