Moderate clerics receive most Assembly of Experts votes in Tehran

The preliminary results of the vote count for the Assembly of Experts reveal that in Tehran moderate figures Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani and President Hassan Rohani are in the first two positions respectively.

ILNA reported that on Saturday February 27 that from over 1.5 million votes counted, Hashemi Rafsanjani has received over 692 thousand votes and Hassan Rohani over 652 thousand.

Hardliners Ahmad Jannati, Mohammad Yazdi and Mesbah Yazdi are in the tenth, twelfth and sixteenth positions.

Tehran will have 16 representatives in the Assembly of Experts. Official results have not been finalized yet.

Elections Office had said earlier that they will finish counting the Assembly of Experts votes before going on to the parliamentary ones.
