Hundreds of professors from across Iran have issued a letter to the head of Iran’s judiciary, urging him to end the media ban on former president and top reformist figure Mohammad Khatami.
The Kaleme website reports that 608 professors and scholars have spoken out against the media ban on Khatami, describing it as illegal and a threat to citizens’ rights.
The signatories stress that such a restriction is not befitting of the Islamic Republic regime or the dignity of the former president.
In February, the spokesman for the judiciary announced a media ban on Mohammad Khatami, based on an order from the National Security Council. The administration, however, maintains that the council has not issued any such order.
The Jamaran and Bahar News websites were briefly blocked for publishing news about Mohammad Khatami.
