Iran says detained “spy” planned election disturbances
Heydar Moslehi

Iran’s Intelligence Minister has announced the arrest of a “spy” who was developing a social network for creating disturbances during the coming parliamentary elections.

Khabar-on-line website reported that the detained spy was funded by the U.S. in the amount of “millions of dollars.”

“The detainee had come to Iran from one of the neighbouring countries, and the Americans were planning to fund a similar kind of social networking as they did in the past election,” Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi said.

He added: “Today, powerful institutions have been established in the U.S., and their president is told that the Islamic Revolution has to be toppled, and to achieve this end from the inside they are making certain investments.”

Ayatollah Jannati, the head of the Guardian Council, led today’s Friday Mass Prayers in Tehran and said this: “Some people are trying to repeat the issue of election fraud like they did in 2009.”

In recent months, Iran’s conservative elite has been accusing the office of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, headed by Esfandiar Rahim Mashai, of trying to influence the upcoming presidential elections, referring to this movement as “a deviant current.”

Jannati recently said that most activities of the “deviant current” appear to be in preparation for the elections. “They are absorbing and distributing funds. Today it may not be in the interests of the regime to confront them, but the people will soon deal with them,” he warned.

Last month, the ultra conservative elements of the establishment formed a group to prevent what they referred to as the government’s “illegal” interference in the next parliamentary elections.
