The Iranian and Afghan crew of a road construction company abducted in western Afghanistan earlier this week by the Taliban have been released, according to Associated Press.
AP reports that the workers which consisted of at least 12 Iranians and two Afghans were kidnapped while driving to a remote part of Farah Province on Monday. The Taliban had claimed responsibility for the abductions and demanded an end to the construction of the road that is to connect Farah to border cities of Iran.
The police reportedly managed to secure the release of all the hostages with the mediation of local tribal elders.
Afghan police reported 13 Iranian were released while Iranian authorities had announced only 12 Iranians missing.
The construction of the 121 KM road is being carried out by an Iranian company and so far fifty percent of the construction has been completed.
