Iranian journalist sentenced to six years in jail
Nazanin Khosravani

Iranian journalist, Nazanin Khosravani has been sentenced to six years in prison by Iran’s Revolutionary court in the preliminary hearing.

Kaleme website quotes her lawyer, Farideh Gheirat, saying the journalist was charged with "assembly and collusion for activities against national security and propaganda against the regime. "  Khosravani will appeal the sentence in the appellate court.

Khosravani was arrested in November 2009 after a her computer and personal belongings were confiscated in a raid.
She was released last March after 132 days in jail on a $600,000 bail.

Khosravani formerly contributed to several reformist newspapers such as Bahar, Sarmayeh and Kargozaran, which are all currently banned.

Following the controversial presidential election results of 2009, which were challenged by the now-detained opposition candidates MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, dozens of journalists were arrested and several newspapers were banned.

Many journalists have been sentenced to harsh prison terms by the Ilsmaic Republic judiciary in the past year.
