Iranian minister of intelligence resigns
Heydar Moslehi

Iran’s Minister of Intelligence, Heydar Moslehi resigned from his position today without announcing the reasons for this action.

Mahmoud Ahamdinejad accepted Moslehi’s resignation and went on to appoint him as "president’s adviser in intelligence matters," ISNA reports.

The former Minister of Intelligence, Gholamhosein Mohseni Ejei was also removed as head of the ministry of intelligence in a sudden move by Ahmadinejad in 2009.

Ejei was immediately appointed as the prosecutor general of Iran and spokesman for the judiciary by the headof the judiciary, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani.

Heydar Moslehi is the third member of Ahmadinejad administration that has been removed from the cabinet. Manouchehr Mottaki was earlier removed as the foreign minister and later Hamid Behbahani, Minister of Transportation was impeached by the parliament and failed to receive anther vote of confidence.

Heydar Moslehi was the only member of the clergy in Ahmadinejad’s cabinet and prior to his appointment to the intelligence ministry was the Supreme Leader’s representative in the Donations and Charity Organization.

He had also served as the leader’s representative in the Revolutionary Guard ground force, Basij Resistance and Revolutionary Guards Air Force.

Individuals appointed to the head of the intelligence ministry must also meet the approval of the Supreme Leader.
