Islamic Iran Participation Front is calling on Iranians to join in a political fast on Sunday April 10 to show support for political prisoners in Islamic Republic jails.
“Members of the Islamic Iran Participation Front will go on a political fast in solidarity with Ms. Mohtashamipour on Sunday and urge all supporters of the Green Movement and the country’s freedom-seekers to join this effort and echo the suppressed voice of the green captives, especially the proud enchained women and Ms. Mohatashamipour in particular,” reads an IIPF statement on Norooz website.
The reformist party expressed grave concern over the health of Mohtashamipour, who is reportedly on her second round of a huEditnger strike at Evin Prison.
Her relative, Ali Tabatabai, told Kaleme website that Mohtashamipour began another hunger strike on Monday.
Mohtashamipour had started a hunger strike on March 21. Days later, she was transferred to a hospital after losing consciousness. She agreed to end her strike after authorities assured her she would be allowed to visit her husband, Mostafa Tajzadeh, another member of IIPF also jailed at Evin Prison.
However, Mohatashamipour reportedly did not get to visit her husband and, therefore, has resumed her hunger strike.
Mohtashamipour was arrested on March 1 during demonstrations that called for the release of Iranian opposition leaders MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, who are under house arrest along with their wives.
Mostafa Tajzadeh, an executive member of the Participation Front, was caught in the wave of arrests that followed the controversial re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2009. He is charged with “assembly and collusion against national security and propaganda against the regime” and sentenced to six years in prison and a 10-year ban from political and media activities.
