Bahrain dismisses Iranian charge d’affaires

Bahrain has dismissed the charge d’affaires of Iranian embassy from Bahrain, Al-Arabiah reports.

Yesterday Bahrain’s foreign minister had said: “Iran’s position regarding the developments in Bahrain is not friendly and not in line with the principles of bilateral and neighbourly relations.”

He added that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s statements regarding Bahrain are not acceptable and they expect him to reconsider his position.

Ahmadinejad had condemned the actions of the Bahrain government regarding the recent protests in that country and criticized the presence of Saudi troops in Bahrain to clamp down on protesters.

Iran has summoned the Saudi and Swiss ambassadors as well as Bahrain charge d’affaires to protest against the “foreign interference in dealing with the peaceful demands of the people of Bahrain.”

Bahrain responded to the summons in kind by summoning the Iranian ambassador and recalling its own ambassador from Iran for what it referred to as “discussions” regarding Iran’s interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs.

Bahrain has a 70 percent Shiite population but is ruled by a Sunni monarchy.

FARS news agency reports that today protesters gathered in front of UN offices in Tehran demanding the deployment of “people’s volunteer forces” to Bahrain.

The reports adds: “Demonstrators chanted “UN supports Saudi crimes!” “Shame on the United Nations!” “Death to the Insecurity Council!” and pelted the UN building with tomatoes and eggs but were stopped by security forces when they moved towards the building.”
