Iran says detainees members of dissident group
Commander Ahmadreza Radan

Several people linked to the exiled opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran were arrested yesterday and their files are being processed, Iranian security forces announced today.

“In recent days, Monafeghin had made several efforts to begin a massacre on Bahman 25 (Febrauary 14), but the people’s refusal to follow them did not allow their evil plan to fall into place,” Commander Ahmadreza Radan declared.

The Islamic Republic refers to the PMOI as “monafeghin.”

Radan said one person was killed and 9 were injured in yesterday’s protests, adding that one victim was in critical condition.

The pro-government Society of Islamic Students of Iran issued a statement claiming that an art student was killed in the protests after having been “taken in by the corruption and conspiracy of the two sedition leaders Mousavi and Karroubi.”

Several eyewitnesses informed Zamaneh that protesters were shot at yesterday. One witness said the shots were coming from riot police.

Commander Radan maintained that the protesters were “a small group of seditionists” that had caused disturbances and engaged in vandalism.

According to opposition and international accounts, tens of thousands of Iranians responded to the rally call from opposition leaders MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi to stage demonstrations yesterday in support of recent Arab uprisings. The demonstrations turned into anti-government protests after security forces and pro-government forces attacked.
