Iranian judiciary doubles bail for detained journalist
Nazanin Khosravani

The $300,000 bail established for detained journalist, Nazanin Khosravani has been increased to $600,000 by the Iranian judiciary.

The Campaign for Human Rights in Iran quotes sources that say Khosravani’s bail was increased because the ministry of intelligence has not approved her release.

At her trial, she was described as being at high risk of fleeing the country.

Khosravani reportedly denied any such risk, maintaining she has never intended to leave the country despite ample opportunity prior to her arrest.

The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran reports that Khosravani’s family was told by authorities to refrain from talking to the media, but despite the family’s compliance, the judiciary has ruled to keep Khosravani in jail.

Khosravani was arrested in November of 2010 at her home after security forces raided her home and confiscated her computer and documents.

She is charged with "activities against national security and propaganda against the regime."

Khosravani has collaborated with several reformist newspapers in the past but, according to several reports, in the year before her arrest she was not involved in any media activities.

Journalists have been repeatedly targeted for arrest and heavy sentencing in the government crackdown on the protests following the 2009 presidential elections in Iran.
