Another Iranian political prisoner in imminent danger of execution
Jafar Kazemi

Reports from Iran indicate that Jafar Kazemi, a political prisoner sentenced to death is in imminent danger of execution.

According to reports from International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran and Iranian human rights activists in Iran, Jafar Kazemi’s sentence has been sent to the court of execution.

Jafar Kazemi, a 46-year-old lithographer for textbooks and pamphlets at Amir Kabir University, was arrested September of 2009.

Kazemi was also imprisoned for nine years in the eighties for political reasons.

Kazemi’s lawyer, Nasim Ghanavi reports that his client is accused of “enmity with God through sympathy for People’s Mojahedin Organization.” The evidence for the charge is his trip to Iraq, to visit his child. She added that he has denied all charges.

People’s Mojahedin Organization is an Iranian dissident group that has fought against the Islamic Republic since the outset of the state’s foundation and has a camp in Iraq were a group of its members have lived since the Iran-Iraq War in the eighties.

Tehran Prosecutor had said in May: “We currently have three execution sentences for Mohammad Ali Saremi, Jafar Kazemi and an individual named Mohammad Ali Hajaghai. The ties of these individuals to the Monafeghin (PMO) are evident and certain. They have links to that organization and were arrested in September of 2009.”

Jafar Kazemi’s wife, Roudabeh Akbari wrote a letter to the United Nations Secretary General after her husband’s sentence was approved urging him to make every effort to stop his execution. She indicated that he was abused and tortured in prison in order to confess to involvement in the Ashura Day protests in December 2009 while he was in effect arrested much earlier.

Iranian judiciary executed Ali Saremi on December 28 for similar charges brought against Jafar Kazemi.
