Fatemeh Karroubi, the wife of opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi, who had called for the opportunity to vote despite being held under house arrest, has announced that the authorities brought the ballot box to her husband after the polls closed, thus denying him the right to vote.

Fatemeh Karroubi said her husband had decided to vote in the elections out of concern for the country.

Mehdi Karroubi has been under house arrest since February 2011 for challenging the results of the 2009 presidential election, in which he was a candidate.

Fatemeh Karroubi reports that the officials arrived at 1:30 AM, while the cut-off time for voting was midnight. She reminds officials that voting after the start of the vote count was against the law.

The prosecutor’s office says, however, that it was at the Karroubi home at 11:30 PM and blames the Ministry of the Interior for failing to bring the ballot box on time.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Taghi Karroubi, the opposition leader’s son, told the media that his father has commended the people’s participation in the elections, even though he himself was unable to vote.

He reports that his father regards the voting process as the people’s sole means of reforming the system.
