The Tasnim Website reports that Zanjani’s lawyer wrote in a letter that hurling accusations at Zanjani when the charges against him have not been proven in court should be “prohibited”.

Babak Zanjani, who was closely linked to the Ahmadinejad administration, is facing serious fraud charges.

Zanjani is accused of owing the oil ministry 8.6 trillion toumans while acting as a go-between for international sales of crude oil.

The current administration has referred to the Babak Zanjani affair as the “biggest corruption case of the century”. The letter from Rasoul Kouhpayehzadeh, Zanjani’s counsel, asks how that claim can be made when nothing has yet been proven in court.

Kouhpayehzadeh urges President Rohani to warn his cabinet about using such language and to ensure they comply with all the legal, political and professional requirements of their office.
