The head of the Iranian judiciary is calling on prosecutors across the country to deal with what he describes as a “cultural anomaly”.

Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli Larijani expressed serious concern regarding Persian-language satellite programming and in a meeting with top officials of the judiciary, he said the ministry of culture and guidance needs to consider the spread of satellite programs as “a cultural sneak attack” and confront it as such.

Larijani also expressed grave concern about the effects of cellphones, tablets and social media on the public.

“Under the reform government, unfortunately, some did not even believe in the issue of cultural sneak attacks and, therefore, did not make any efforts to confront it,” said the head of Iran’s judiciary, lashing out at lenient reformist and progressive policies.

The use of satellites is banned in Iran, but the majority of households have satellite dishes and watch satellite programming more than state television.
