Turkish fighter jets bombed 17 bases of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey on Monday August 10.
The Associated Press reports that Turkish warplanes hit 17 targets around the Buzul mountain and the Ikiyaka region of Hakkari province in the southeast of Turkey and its border regions with Iran and Iraq.
According to the same report, PKK forces attacked an infantry brigade post in Sirnak province on Tuesday August 11 and seriously wounded a Turkish soldier who later succumbed to his wounds in hospital.
The Turkish air strikes come a day after the US consulate in Istanbul was attacked by two women who opened fire on the heavily guarded building. The government blames the PKK for the incident, but a far-left group called the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front has claimed responsibility for the attack.
