The Iranian Ministry of Power says seven million Iranians in rural areas receive their drinking water from mobile tankers.

The Mehr News Agency reports that according to deputy power minister Rahim Meydani, there has never before been any specific budget for supplying water to rural areas; however, the current budget sets aside two trillion toumans for that purpose.

He added that if the budget is delivered on time, it will take three years to solve the problem of supplying water to rural areas.

In June, several townships in Kermanshah were faced with a severe two-month water shortage. The authorities report that more than 6,374 households in the region receive their drinking water from mobile water tankers and are in serious need of water.

Last December, Water Resources Management announced that the country is facing an extreme water crisis due to decreased precipitation and the depletion of water resources.
