Nuclear talks between Iran and the 5+1 have been extended to Friday July 10 and a report from a senior U.S. diplomat says the parties are now preparing the draft of a new UN resolution containing the provisions of the agreement.
The announcement of the extension came after a two-hour meeting between U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Kerry had been quoted as saying earlier: “I think the negotiations have reached a very delicate stage. We can make progress, but this will require political will, and a lot of work needs to be done at this stage. I am here to get a final deal and I think we can.”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who had also arrived in Vienna, told reporters that the talks were “progressing in a positive direction” and that “results are within reach”.
According to ISNA, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency, Ali Akbar Salehi, and U.S. Energy Secretary Edward Moniz have now resumed talks, while all 5+1 foreign ministers except for Kerry have left Vienna.
