A bomb explosion in front of the Iranian ambassador’s residence in the Libyan capital caused minor damage to the building, which was empty at the time.
The Associated Press cites Libyan sources that say a homemade bomb was left in a trash can near the building on Sunday February 22.
The ambassador was not in Libya at the time. IRNA reports that the Iranian Embassy in Tripoli is closed and the Iranian envoy serves as a traveling ambassador.
Meanwhile, a group claiming links to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the explosion. Attacks in Libya linked to ISIS have been stepped up since Egypt launched air strikes on eastern Libya, which followed the release of an ISIS video showing the execution of Egyptian Coptic Christians.
