The Russian Ambassador to Iran says all preparations for the construction of a second nuclear power station in Bushehr are on track and the construction will commence in the fall of 2015.
Levan Jagarian told Interfax: “The construction project of the Bushehr 2 nuclear power plant will proceed according to schedule.”
He added that there are no foreseeable delays at this time and the project is on track. Behrooz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for Iran’s Atomic Agency, reported in July on agreements with Russia to build two power plants in Bushehr.
The Russian company Rusatom and Iran’s Atomic Agency signed a deal in November for the construction of two more power plants, with the possibility of increasing that to four power plants at other sites in the country.
According to the agreement, fuel for the power generators is to be provided by Rusatom, which will also take care of reprocessing, storage and its return to Russia.
The Bushehr Power Plant is Iran’s first nuclear power plant and it was 35 years in the making; the 1979 Revolution caused a long delay and a change in contractors ate up more time.
Russia took over the contract 17 years ago and, after several delays, its control was fully transferred to Iran last year.
