IRGC reports destruction of terror cell near border

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps announced that it has destroyed a terrorist cell active near the country’s southwestern borders.

In a report on Monday January 5, Sepah News said the cell was responsible for assassinating a number of teachers and Basij members in the region.

The report adds that the nine people arrested were planning to carry out more assassinations in Sarbaz.

On Thursday January 1, a Basij member and a local teacher were assassinated in Sarbaz by two motorcyclists.

Other reports from the head of Sistan Baluchistan security, Hossein Rahimi, indicate that identification and arrest operations have been ongoing for three days, and so far twelve people have been arrested in connection with recent terrorist attacks.

In recent years, Sistan-Baluchistan has seen repeated violent attacks in various parts of the province, especially near its borders. Some of these attacks have been connected with the Sunni militant groups Jundallah and Jeysh-ol-Adl, which claim to fight for the rights of Sunni minorities in the region.
