Train-manufacturing facility brought to a halt by workers

Hundreds of Pars Wagon workers in Arak stopped work after the company refused to renew the contract of union representative Ali Derakhshandehbakht.

ILNA reported on Wednesday December 24 that 900  workers at the train-manufacturing company brought production to a halt after their representative in the Islamic Association of Workers was terminated.

Iranian authorities impose fierce restrictions on the activities of unions and labour syndicates, and the Islamic Association of Workers is a quasi-governmental body that is charged with advocating for labour concerns.

The main shareholder of Pars Wagon is linked to a Revolutionary Guards base, which recently sent a new manager to the company. The new management reportedly began at once to change the composition of the workforce at the facility.
