Iran will no longer need to import gasoline in the coming year, Iran's National Oil Refining and Petroleum Products Distribution Company announced on Wednesday November 26.
A company spokesman announced that the new refineries near Isfahan and the first phase of the Fars Gulf Star will soon be ready for production.
Iran recently stopped the production of gasoline in petrochemical plants following reports from the Department of the Environment that the product was linked to rising cancer rates.
Iran is currently importing an average of five million litres of gasoline per day.
The company reports that final stages of the refineries were delayed due to sanctions on the import of necessary parts; however, the latest sanctions relief has allowed the projects to move ahead.
The Ministry of Oil has confirmed that the Isfahan refinery will have the capacity to produce four million litres of high quality gasoline per day.
