Giti Pourfazel, the lawyer for a jailed Iranian journalist, reports that her client’s case has been referred to the appeals court for a reconsideration of his sentence.
Pourfazel told the Etemad daily on Wednesday October 8 that over a month ago she filed an objection to the sentence issued by the preliminary court for Serajeddin Mirdamadi, and finally the matter has been referred to the appeals court.
Serajeddin Mirdamadi was charged with “propaganda activities against the regime” and “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security” and sentenced to one-year and five-year prison terms for the respective charges.
Mirdamadi, who had settled in France after the crackdown on journalists during the controversial 2009 presidential election, returned to Iran after last year’s victory of Hassan Rohani in the presidential elections, but in May he was arrested and charged and he has remained in custody since.
