The sixth meeting between the Iranian foreign minister, the EU’s top nuclear negotiator, Catherine Ashton, and U.S. State Secretary John Kerry ended on a positive note in Vienna, and some reports indicate the negotiations will continue for another 48 hours.
The Austrian News Agency reported on Sunday November 23 that according to Ashton, there is great potential for cooperation, which is a mark of progress in the negotiations.
IRNA has also reported “good” progress in the talks, quoting an Iranian diplomat saying the negotiations will remain open for the next 48 hours.
The diplomat was quoted as saying that, although a negative atmosphere had descended on the talks due to media reports, “the session between John Kerry, Catherine Ashton and Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday afternoon was very fruitful and constructive.”
The report comes after Reuters reported that ISNA quoted a diplomat saying it would be “impossible” to reach an agreement by Monday, and now there is talk of extending the time limit.
U.S. President Barack Obama has been quoted as saying that a resolution in the nuclear talks will satisfy both the Congress and the people of the United States.
