Iran’s national broadcaster censored the entire opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, declaring it to be against “sacred family values.”
The head of Iran’s Channel Three network, Majid Zeynalabedin, said: “We live in an Islamic country, and our broadcasting standards are in line with our social and legal values.”
The opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup was aired on Thursday evening with performances from Jennifer Lopez, Claudia Leitte and Pitbull as well as various other local performers.
Iran’s National Soccer team is vying for the cup; its first game is on Monday June 16 against Nigeria.
