Reformist journalist held by authorities

Sarajeddin Mirdamadi, an Iranian reformist journalist, has been taken into custody by Iranian authorities.

In a statement on her Facebook page, Fatemeh Mousavi, Mirdamadi’s wife, reported that on Saturday May 10, Mirdamadi presented himself at Evin Court to give some explanations but instead he was taken into custody.

Mousavi was told by Giti Pourfazel, Mirdamadi’s defence lawyer, that a temporary arrest warrant has been issued for her client and currently he cannot be released on bail.

Mirdamadi has collaborated with the banned newspapers Jahan-e Eslam, Toos and Hayat-e No and has also been a contributor to Radio Zamaneh.

He returned to Iran from France after the recent presidential election, and upon his arrival at the airport, his passport was confiscated by the authorities.

He was first charged with “acting against national security” and that has been expanded by the Revolutionary guards to include  “assembly and collusion.”
