The minimum wage for workers in Iran has been increased by 25 percent, bringing it to six million, eight thousand and nine hundred rials per month.
The Mehr News Agency reports that the Supreme Labour Council approved the rate at its Friday March 14 meeting.
The approval comes after numerous meetings and negotiations involving government, labour groups and employers.
Labour groups were vying for an increase of 30 to 35 percent for the new Iranian year, which begins on March 21, and they had already stated that a 25-percent increase is in no way adequate to keep up with the inflation rate.
The Eghtesad (Economy) Newspaper recently published a report indicating that workers’ purchasing power has fallen to what it was eight years ago.
