Accused journalist returns to court for further questioning
Serajeddin Mirdamadi

Serajeddin Mirdamadi, an Iranian journalist and former student activist, was summoned to Evin Court on Saturday March 1 to offer a series of explanations.

IRNA reports that Mirdamadi’s lawyer, Giti Pourfazel, reported that her client was summoned by court on Saturday to respond to a series of questions by the authorities.

When Mirdamadi was on trial in December, the judge ruled that the case had not been adequately filed and had to be returned to Evin Court in order to be completed.

Serajeddin Mirdamadi has been indicted on the charge of “acting against national security” and has been released on bail pending his trial.

He is currently barred from leaving the country, and the prosecutor has asked for a sentence of one to three years.

Mirdamadi’s lawyer reported earlier that her client’s interviews and published material in the media are included in the evidence against him.

Serajeddin Mirdamadi has done work for the currently banned newspapers Jahan-e Eslam, Toos and Hayat-e No. He has also done work with Radio Zamaneh.

Following the recent presidential elections in Iran, Mirdamadi returned with his wife from Paris to Tehran, but their passports were confiscated as soon as they arrived at Imam Airport.
