Detained opposition leader gets another hospital visit
Mehdi Karroubi

Fatemeh Karroubi, the wife of Iranian opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi, reports that her husband was allowed another hospital visit.

Mehdi Karroubi has been under house arrest since February 2011 and, according to reports from his family, he is suffering from deteriorating health due to his confinement.

Saham News reports that Fatemeh Karroubi said on Monday November 18 that her husband was taken to Laleh Hospital and then returned to his place of confinement after a few hours.

She reported that her husband is suffering from digestive problems and has difficulty walking.

Fatemeh Karroubi reports: “Continued deprivation from fresh air and sunlight and, most importantly, his confinement in a non-residential space with scant facilities has led to the emergence of several health problems” for her husband.

This is the second time Karroubi has been taken to hospital in the past week.

Mehdi Karroub is being held in a so-called safe house of the intelligence ministry.

It is now more than a thousand days since Mehdi Karroubi, MirHosein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard have been subjected to house arrest by Islamic Republic authorities. Mousavi and Karroubi challenged the legitimacy of the 2009 presidential vote count which led to widespread street protests.

Activists inside Iran and abroad as well as many human rights organizations have repeatedly called for the release of these leaders, but to no avail.
