U.S. negotiator with Iran travels to Israel
Wendy Sherman

The U.S. State Department announced Friday that its top nuclear negotiator with Iran is traveling to Israel to discuss issues concerning the Middle East.

A statement issued by the U.S. State Department on Friday May 25 says the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Wendy Sherman, will “reaffirm our unshakeable commitment to Israel’s security.”

Sherman’s trip to Israel comes directly after negotiations between the G5+1 and Iran were wrapped up yesterday in Baghdad, with plans to meet again next month.

Tough negotiations over the past two days ended with no clear resolutions, but both sides agreed to continue talks in Moscow on June 18 and 19.

Israel has been critical of the talks, saying Iran is just stalling for time. The United States, however, is more inclined to pressure Iran through tough sanctions to halt its uranium enrichment activities.

Iran insists that its nuclear program is peaceful and that it has a right to enrich uranium to provide fuel for its nuclear reactors.
