Iran to begin talks with IAEA
Ali Asghar Soltanieh

Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency, announced that Iran will begin a new round of talks with the agency on May 13 and 14 in Vienna.

Soltanieh told IRNA on Friday April 27: “In a continuation of talks with the agency aimed at setting a framework and modality to resolve all questions, it has been agreed to begin a new round of talks with international agencies and the IAEA at the Islamic Republic’s permanent location.”

He added that this decision attests to “Tehran’s determination to cooperate with the agency in order to prove the baselessness of claims against Iran and establish that all of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear activities are peaceful.”

Delegates from the IAEA visited Iran last February but reported upon their return that the authorities had not allowed them to visit the Parchin Military Base.

Iran maintained that certain security restrictions do not allow a visit to a military base without proper notice. Soltanieh indicated that a visit to Parchin may be set up in the future.

The West is concerned that Iran may be trying to build nuclear weapons, but Iran maintains that all its nuclear activities are peaceful.

Iran met with the G5+1 representatives in Istanbul and will meet with them again in Baghdad in May to resolve the nuclear disputes. Complete cooperation with the IAEA is reportedly one of the G5+1’s chief demands.
