Iran claims success after IAEA visit
Ali Asghar Soltanieh

Iran says the latest report from the International Atomic Energy Agency confirms that all of Iran’s nuclear activities are “peaceful.”

Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA, told ISNA today: “This report once more explicitly shows that all of Iran’s activities and specifically its enrichment activities are under the International Atomic Energy Agency’s supervision.”

Despite Soltanieh’s statements, the IAEA has announced that it still has concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear program, adding that Iran has refused to allow the agency’s inspectors to visit the Parchin facility.

Soltanieh said, however: “Compliance with the IAEA’s requests to clear some of the questions and ambiguities requires agreement on a framework that has the considerations of both sides included in it.”

He also urged all Western powers to “avoid any comments that may disrupt the cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.”

Soltanieh maintained that Iran intends to continue talks with the IAEA to address all of the agency’s concerns.

While Western powers have expressed concern that Iran may be pursuing military ambitions in its nuclear program, Iran insists that its nuclear activities are all peaceful.

This week, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei announced that Iran does not want to build nuclear weapons and he accused Western powers of trying to halt Iran’s scientific progress.

The U.S. and the European Union have begun widespread sanctions against Iran in reaction to the lingering nuclear questions, but Iran has announced that it will not bow down to pressure with regard to its nuclear program.
