Iran tests missiles in naval drill

Iran announced that it has successfully tested its Nasr, Ghader and Noor missiles on the last day of a 10-day naval drill in the Persian Gulf.

Iranian media reported that the Ghader is an advanced long-range missile guided by its own sophisticated radar system.

The Nasr missiles, which the Fars News Agency calls short-range land-to-sea missiles, were tested as a “significant compliment to coastal defence artillery to attack vessels invading Islamic Republic waters.”

Admiral Mahmoud Mousavi reported that the surface-to-surface Noor missile, “an advanced radar-evading, target-seeking, guided and controlled missile that can easily find its target and destroy it,” was successfully tested as well.

The naval manoeuvres followed weeks of fresh sanctions being imposed on Iran by Western countries. Iran responded to Western musings about boycotting Iranian oil by saying that, under such a circumstance, Iran would not allow oil from any country to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. fifth naval fleet station in the Gulf responded by saying it will not allow any disturbance of shipping activities in the strategic waterway.

One sixth of the oil sold in world markets passes through the Strait of Hormuz.
