Iran’s Supreme Leader opposes division of Palestine
Ayatollah Khamenei

At the fifth International Conference in Support of Palestinian Intifada today in Tehran, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei said any plan that divides Palestine must be rejected.

“The plan for two governments, which has been disguised by the membership right in the United Nations, is a capitulation to the demands of the Zionists and acceptance of the Zionist government in Palestinian territory,” Ayatollah Khamenei said. “This is a violation of the rights of Palestinians, disregarding the historic rights of Palestinian refugees and even threatening the rights of Palestinian residents of the territories in 1948.”

Iran’s Supreme Leader continued: “We do not propose throwing Jews in the sea, nor do we recognize the arbitration of the United Nations; we propose a referendum among all Palestinians.”

Ramazan Abdullah, the head of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, and Khaled Mashal, Chaiman of the Hamas Political Bureau, are both attending the conference.

IRNA reports that Khaled Mashal criticized Mahmoud Abbas’s proposal to the UN, saying Abbas has not identified the actual location of the country he wants recognized.

While Hamas is in control of the Gaza Strip, Mahmoud Abbas is in charge of the western bank of the Jordan River.

Representatives from more than 50 countries participated in the conference, including MPs from Lebanon, Iraq, Qatar, Afghanistan and Indonesia, as well as delegations from Zimbabwe, Malawi, Bangladesh, Oman, Algeria, Bolivia, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Denmark, Canada and Pakistan.

The two day conference continues until tomorrow in Tehran
