An explosion at a pipeline in Northwestern Iran has cut off the flow of natural gas to Turkey in that location, Iranian media report.
The blast occurred at 2:10 AM today, and the Mehr News Agency reports that a group of experts is investigating while technicians work to repair the pipeline.
Majid Boujarzadeh, the head of Iran’s National Gas Company, announced that the pipeline, near the Bazargan Border, will be back in operation within 48 hours, adding that the cause of the blast is still unknown.
Recently there has been a growing number of explosions at gas pipelines that supply Turkey, and several Iranian authorities have blamed "terrorist groups" and the PJAK Kurdish militant group for the blasts.
Iran exports close to 30 million cubic metres of natural gas to Turkey every day.
