Ahmadinejad ready for parliamentary questions: MP
Iranian parliament

An Iranian MP has announced that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is ready to respond to any parliamentary questioning, even though the motion to summon him to Parliament essentially has stalled because many sponsoring MPs have withdrawn their signatures.

MP Moussalreza Servati, representing Bojnourd in Parliament, told Khabar-on-line that the president is willing to answer the questions outlined in the motion to Parliament’s Presiding Board.

In June, a motion to question the president on a series of administrative irregularities was submitted to the head of Parliament.

Since then, dozens of MPs have withdrawn their names from the motion, as various political figures have suggested that the Supreme Leader is opposed to such a summons.

Servati went on to add that all of the signatories the motion are conservative MPs who support Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and want to give him a chance to openly defend himself against his critics.

Servati added however that the MPs want to ask Ayatollah Khamenei’s opinion on the matter before executing the motion.

Ali Motahari, the conservative MP who initiated the motion, has said he would not have done so if he’d had the slightest indication that the Supreme Leader opposes such a move.

According to the head of Parliament, Ali Larijani, the Supreme Leader has indicated that it is Parliament’s prerogative to question the president.
