Iran’s Minister of Power has announced preliminary agreements between Tehran and Moscow to build eight power plants in Iran.
In an interview with the Mehr News Agency, Hamid Chitchian said the Russians are prepared to assist in adding 2,800 megawatts of energy to the power grid.
He announced that the Russians have agreed to plans to build two power plants in Tabas and another two in Tabriz and also to restore old power plants.
In May, Reuters reported that Russia could be building eight more nuclear reactors in Iran.
While the number of reactors included in the Mehr report today is the same as the number that was put forward by Reuters, today’s report does not indicate anything about the nature of the power generation plants or the kinds of reactors they are planning to build.
Russians already built the Bushehr Nuclear Plant in Iran; however, the construction was plagued by numerous delays.
