Planters and other workers at the Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane Company staged a sit-in on the factory premises on Monday July 28 to protest delays in the payment of their wages.
ILNA reports that one of the workers said that following repeated protests, the company has now paid half of their wages for the month of May but still owes for the rest of May and all of June.
The Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane factory has 1,000 workers and 700 of them have stopped work to protest management’s failure to pay their wages.
The Khuzestan House of Workers has supported the workers’ protests over back wages. In recent years, Haft Tapeh workers have stopped work on several occasions to demand improvements to their work conditions and regular payment of their wages.
