The European Union Council announced that it has approved extending the suspension of sanctions against Iran in view of the ongoing talks between Iran and the 5+1 representatives.
Nuclear talks came to a close last week with plans to resume in September.
According to the interim agreement reached last fall, the two sides were to reach a final comprehensive deal by July 20. However, both sides have agreed to allow more time for the drafting of the final agreement.
An AFP report indicates that the extension granted by the EU specifically allows Iran to continue exporting its crude oil free from international sanctions.
Meanwhile, the IAEA has reported on Iran’s complete compliance with the provisions of the Geneva agreement in rolling back its nuclear enrichment activities.
