Iranian authorities investigate murder of former lawmaker’s daughter

The murder of Fatemeh Bagherinejadianfard was not motivated by theft, her brother has announced, and her body shows no evidence of injury.

The Etemad daily reports that the coroner has not yet released the cause of Bagherinejadianfard’s death.

Bagherinejadianfard was a 28-year-old student of industrial engineering at Elm-o- Sanaat University in Tehran, a supporter of opposition leader MirHosein Mousavi, and the daughter of a former reformist MP. She disappeared on July 29 after leaving her house for a walk; her body was discovered 24 hours later on the outskirts of Tehran.

Her brother told Etemad: “The cause of death has not been ascertained yet, and [the family is] awaiting the results of the autopsy."

He added that theft was clearly not the motivation for the kidnapping as none of her belongings were taken. He added that her body had no injuries or broken bones nor any visible marks to indicate the cause of death.

Previously, a number of former Iranian lawmakers wrote to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, judicial chief Ayatollah Larijani and Parliamentary Speaker Ali Larijani, expressing remorse and concern over the murder of Fatemeh Bagherinejadianfard. They urged authorities to take immediate action against the recent sharp increase to the crime rate.
