Iran rejects IAEA accusations
Yukiya Amano

Iran’s nuclear power chief says the International Atomic Energy Agency is fabricating accusations against his country.

Fereydoon Abbasi was responding to statements made by Yukiya Amano, the head of the IAEA.

According to Reuters, a letter from Abbasi accuses the IAEA of inventing accusations, adding that the UN resolutions to impose sanctions on Iran are “illegal and unacceptable.”

In his latest report, IAEA chief Amano says Iran is “secretly” engaged in building “nuclear warheads.”

The report has been presented to the IAEA board, which is meeting in Vienna June 6 to 10.

The report indicates that the IAEA cannot guarantee Iran’s nuclear program is completely peaceful. It adds that there is a possibility that Iran is building nuclear warheads to be installed on its Shahab 3 missiles.

Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran’s representative at the IAEA, told IRNA that the international agency’s reputation has been damaged, because such accusations “without concrete evidence” attest to its political motivation.

He added that the accusations are “repetitive and tiring claims and baseless contentions.”

The West has repeatedly expressed concern over the possible military direction of Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran, on the other hand, has adamantly rejected such accusations and continued to stress that its nuclear efforts are all peaceful.
