Razaq Mamoon, Afghan journalist, who was sprayed with acid by an assailant, says he is convinced that Iran is behind this attack.
Mamoon, who has recently published a book investigating the role of Iran in Afghanistan’s civil wars, told reporters at the hospital: “I absolutely believe that this terrorist act was conducted by Iranians.”
Mamoon, who refers to the Islamic Republic as a “terrorist regime”, says that in his book, “The Footprints of the Pharaoh”, he has explained the “violations and destructive activities of Iran in Afghanistan” and thus angered Iranian authorities.
"The publishers of my book were threatened a few days ago by officials of the Iranian embassy in Kabul," Mamoon told BBC; "they tried to ban the book. I had the feeling that they would do something. I don’t think this will be the first and last. There might be other people too on their list.”
Iranian embassy in Kabul has denied the charges and denied any involvement in the attack.
Afghan media organizations have condemned the attack on Mamoon and called of the government to identify the perpetrators of this act and bring them to justice.
President Hamid Karzai has called on Afghan security forces to investigate the incident and prosecute the culprits.
Razaq Mamoon is a prominent Afghan journalist with a history of collaboration with Radio BBC, Radio Free Europe, Towlo private television network and Mandegar daily. He has recently founded Bost Bastan news agency.
