In a fierce attack by Intelligence Ministry and Revolutionary Guards Intelligence forces and more than 100 Prison Guard soldiers, more than 30 political prisoners in Ward 350 of Evin Prison were subjected to severe beatings that resulted in several serious injuries.
The Kaleme opposition website reports that following the attack, which occurred on Thursday morning, 32 prisoners were transfered to solitary confinement.
The report maintains that this was the worst such attack in the past two decades.
The attack came after prisoners reportedly protested by beginning to chant during “an aggressive inspection program” which had lasted over five hours.
HRANA reports that a number of prisoners have been transferred outside of prison premises to receive medical treatment for their injuries, which range from cuts and bruises to broken bones and fractured skulls.
