The head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) spoke out against the Rohani administration for failing to use the capabilities of the IRGC and the Basij militia in establishing policies for achieving the economy of resistance.
Iranian media report that Mohammad Ali Jafari told a gathering of IRGC commanders: “Unfortunately, the government has not welcomed the recommendations of the Basij for an economy of resistance, and we hope the administration will take advantage of the vast capacities of the people and the capabilities of the Basij and the Guards in these areas.”
Jafari had said earlier that in the economic arena, the IRGC and the Basij can have active roles but he complained that the administration is not facilitating their participation.
Despite Jafari’s statements, Hassan Rohani has spoken favourably of collaboration between the government and the Revolutionary Guards, saying: “The IRGC is not the private sector’s rival; they only take on large projects that the private sector cannot handle.”
