An Iranian MP has reported to Parliament that 250 workers at the Meybod Steel Factory in Yazd Province have not been paid for six months.
ILNA reports that Mohammad Saleh Jokar called on the minister of industry to address the problems of the steelworkers in Yazd.
“The government has privatized this factory but the action is leading to the closure of the unit,” Jokar said.
Jokar called on the minister of industry to heed worker demands and “save the factory” from closure.
Iran’s economic downturn has hit many factory workers across the country with widespread layoffs and backlogs of unpaid wages.
