Behshahr city councillor Azamolsadat Hosseini announced that she has been dismissed from her position as spokesperson for the council for having a Facebook account.
Ms. Hosseini’s dismissal has become a hot topic in Iranian media over the past two days.
Hosseini told the Shargh Newspaper that she had been given friendly advice against joining the social networking site by older members of the council but she did not think that they would go so far as to dismiss her.
The head of the council denies any link between her dismissal and her Facebook activities. He adds that Ms. Hosseini remains as the head of council’s women’s committee.
Azamolsadat Hosseini’s Facebook entries mostly consisted of short reports on city council meetings and some analysis of them.
